Steve Bannon Thinks Pope Francis is "Naive"

[German Section of Radio Vatican] US President Donald Trump will also meet the Pope during his visit to the G7 summit in Italy. This is what the Rome correspondent of the news site "Breitbart News" told  "Corriere della Sera". "Breitbart" had been headed by Steve Bannon until 2016, Trumps most important consultant. The past contact between Trump and the Pope was not a happy one, according to the correspondent Thomas Williams, a former member of the religious community "Legionaries of Christ".

There was a "certain mistrust" between the Pope and Bannon. Bannon considers the pope "naive in the subjects of emigration and radical Islam," said the Breitbart correspondent. He also reported on the contacts between the American Cardinal Raymond L. Burke and Bannon. Both are not friends because they have different styles: "Burke is methodical, Bannon is impetuous," says Williams.

When Trump was to appoint a new American ambassador to the Holy See, things were unclear. According to the journalist, there was a very pious man in the conversation whom he, Williams, advised. The new US ambassador to the Holy See, even if he was a Catholic, must articulate the position of President Trump.

Thomas Williams is married in Rome to the daughter of the former US Ambassador to the Holy See Mary Ann Glendon.

The G7 summit will take place on 26 and 27 May in Taormina (Sicily). A few days ago, the Vatican described speculation about a possible meeting between Trump and Pope Francis as "premature".

Magister: The Jesuits Have Lost Radio Vatican -- Shortwave Broadcasts Discontinued

Edit: the following is from Sandro Magister, espressoonline's resident Vaticanist who sits at the center of the storms racking the Church and its leaders in Rome. It's interesting to see how Father Lombardi is slowly being pushed into further retirement and irrelevance at 74. Will the Vatican's communications and press service be dominated by a dominated by a Godless global corporation?

ROME, October 30, 2016 – Jorge Mario Bergoglio is the first Jesuit in history to sit on the throne of Peter. And yet precisely during his reign the Society of Jesus is at risk of disappearing from the Vatican.

It still has charge of the astronomical observatory. But it has lost command of the press office, the radio network, the television station, the heart of the communication system of the Holy See.

For a few years Fr. Federico Lombardi was at the head of all three of these installations. But one after another they have been taken from him, and no other Jesuit has replaced him.

The new boss of the Vatican media, placed by Pope Francis at the helm of the newly created secretariat for communication, is the Lombard monsignor Dario Edoardo Viganò, an expert on cinema, as far as can be imagined from the vision of his predecessor.

Vatican Diplomat: Muslim Migrants Are a Challenge

Edit: can't vouch for everything on here, but it's an important commentary on the incompatibility of Muslim immigration and the Christian values that are the foundation of Europe's culture and consciousness. The last time Muslims "immigrated" to Europe it wasn't so great either.

The Vatican representative at the United Nations in Geneva: Muslim immigrants often lack an understanding of European values - He also criticized that on the international stage Christian persecution is swept aside.

Vatican City (kath.net/KAP) The arrival of an increasing number of Muslim refugees in Europe can be a challenge for the Christian and democratic identity of the continent, were the words of the Vatican's representative to the United Nations in Geneva. Muslim immigrants often lack an understanding of European values, Archbishop Silvano Maria Tomasi said this weekend at Vatican Radio. These included respect for a pluralistic society, the separation of religion and politics and democracy. Although the inclusion of people in need is a Christian duty, Europe also has the right to "retain their own identity," said Tomasi. Muslims should not call into question the values of freedom.

The enormous increase in the numbers of refugees are from the perspective Tomasi, firstly, the result of a failed Middle East policy since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. "The situation in the Middle East has grown steadily worse since." On the other hand, people fleeing poverty, arising from a systematic policy of disparity between economically strong and weak countries. "There is a political will to maintain this inequality between countries," criticized Tomasi.

An important role was played by the interests of multinational corporations. In addition, the Vatican diplomat lamented, international indifference to the persecution of Christians in the Middle East. Apart from Pope Francis, who constantly remembers their suffering, the events are brushed aside on the international stage, "as if the human rights of Christians are not of equal importance like the rights of other persons". Death After Papal Mass in Philippines

Strong winds at the airport broke anchorages and caused a serious accident.

Tacloban (kath.net/ KAP)   Pope Francis' visit in Tacloban has been overshadowed by a death. After the Papal Mass, strong winds knocked over the moorings for one of the enormous loud speakers that were built at the airport, as Vatican Radio reported. It fell on a woman who succumbed to her injuries later. Philippine bishops assured the local media that Pope Francis learned her name, and pray for them.

Here's footage of Pope Francis leaving Tacoblan in a storm.

[Don’t] Get Your Conclave News from Vatican Radio, Not NBC or Whatnot

Update to the Update GMT 18:23:  Here’s decent coverage from them on the Vatican website:

http://www.vatican.va/phome_en.htm

Edit: don’t get stuck listening to crappy coverage from NBC, BBC or Nazi originated Spiegel.  Listen to the Vatican Broadcaster, as chaotic as it is.  Their site is horribly constructed and I can’t find live streaming, but here’s a link for an MP3:

http://www.vaticanradio-us.org/webcasting/rg_inglese_1_1.mp3

You also may have to download a viewer/player in order to get into the Vatican Site.  There are various  sites to access live streaming, but the English ones appear to be broken.

Just listening to the morning news now, and it’s got Father Thomas Reese SJ, disgraced former editor of America on.  Can’t they find someone who’s Catholic?

Ok, forget Vatican Radio in English.  Here’s live streaming coverage on Youtube:
